Veliko Trgovišće (Translation: Big Market Place) is a village and municipality in Krapina and Zagorje county in Croatia. Veliko Trgovišće is situated on the southwestern outskirts of Krapina and Zagorje county on the border toward Zagreb county (only about 30 km away from Zagreb). Veliko Trgovišće municipality has an area of 46,65 square metres, which amounts to 3,81% of the whole area of Krapina and Zagorje county.
The main traffic corridors of the state pass through this region – along the Krapina river valley. From the right bank of the Krapina river, Veliko Trgovišće county extends westward.
Somewhat eastward of this county, the Zagreb-Macelj motorway (E-59) passes through as part of the Phyrn traffic corridor between states. The route of the former „Zagorje Highway“ -which is nowadays referred to as Ž-2196 - passes through this region.
By detaching itself from the Gubaševo junction - along the Horvatska stream - Gubaševo-Kumrovec state motorway (D-205) passes through. This road is crucial for the traffic system within municipalities.
Apart from the before mentioned major roads, the Zagreb-Krapina resp. Varaždin railway line is also important for the traffic position of the county in relation to the broader area,.
The birthplace of Franjo Tuđman, the first president of the Republic of Croatia, is situated opposite SE-MI Hotel & Restaurant.
